What's Happening at Club?

It has been a rather busy few weeks with a lot of exciting programs and events happening at our Clubs in Cape Girardeau and Scott City! Check out the photo galleries below and read about the exciting things that our members and staff have been up to!

Our members in Cape Girardeau and Scott City each got to participate in a Trunk-r-Treat with the help of the Notre Dame Regional High School student athletes! This is the second year that our friends at Notre Dame have done this event for our members and every year they say it is "their favorite service project" for their students. Members, staff and volunteers all dressed up to celebrate this spooky holiday.

Some of our girls at our Cape Girardeau location just finished up our fall programming block of SMARTGirls! SMARTGirls is a program from Boys & Girls Clubs of America that focuses on health, fitness, prevention/education and self-esteem enhancement. This program is done with our 11-14 year old girls and they have a blast every time!

One day, the girls were able to watch an inspirational documentary, "Step," that followed high school girls through their senior year and how being on their high school's step team helped them to feel better about themselves and look forward to a bright and better future in college. Another day, one of our partners came in and did some yoga with the girls. And to wrap up the program with a community service project, the girls were able to make some dog treats for a local program, EPIC Pals, that focuses on social and emotional learning programs with the help of adorable fluffy friends. Our friends from EPIC stopped by to pick up the treats and the girls got to hang out and try out some commands with one of the dogs!

Recently, we had a group of members that were interviewed and chosen by our social work intern to participate in our SMART Leaders program. SMART Leaders is a booster program to our SMART Moves program that focuses on prevention through engaging, interactive, group activities designed to increase peer support, enhance life skills, build resiliency and strengthen leadership skills. These members are very excited to be a part of this program group and to be the bright leaders we know they can be.

The group of SMART Leaders were able to attend a programming event at the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri. The program, in conjunction with MissouriCare, gave them the opportunity to learn about painting from an instructor. All of their paintings will be displayed at the MissouriCare office in Cape Girardeau to inspire good physical and emotional health.

We have even more exciting programs and events that are coming up, so keep an eye out on our blog and Facebook for more details and photos!
